Here the water is salty. It is seawater from the ''little sea'', as we say in Breton (Morbihan means little sea).
The Golfe du Morbihan is a small inner sea (20 km x 15 km, 300 islands) which fills up every day when the tide comes in and gets empty when it goes out, with a ''flush effect'', which produces strong currents, making the shipping risky.
At low tide, a handful of professional fishermen collect clams (Ruditapes philippinarum) on the shore. The small harbour of the passage in Montsarrac (one of the villages of Séné) is one of the places where fishermen and buyers make business.
