The raft slide Mühltal (nearby Strasslach) has a total length of approx. 345m and overcomes a difference in altitude of 18m. It is the longest raft slide of Europe.
Originally the rafts served as means of transportation for bulky goods.
Nowadays an Isar raft journey is a "mordsgaudi" (pleasure, fun) which you shouldn't miss.
Each wooden raft takes hold of up to 60 persons, raftsman, musicians, several kegs of beer, snacks and veal sausages and provides non-stop fun.
The rafts get just as built as already 100 years ago, 7 X 18 m long, without nails and screws and 25 tons heavy.They are today taken to pieces again in Munich, loaded on trucks and brought back to Wolfratshausen so that the raft fun can take place the next day again.
The tradition and the knowledge of the raftsmen was passed on by generation to generation and only the old-established raftsman families may drive on the Isar with their rafts.
