Caption
The historic port city of Alexandria, Virginia was established in 1749 and is located on the Potomac River Southwest of Washington, DC. Following along the river a linear park provides a great place to stroll, play and relax. A commercial office complex called Canal Square is located at the North end of the river walk. This complex includes the first lock of a canal built by a company associated with George Washington. It also includes the waterfall fountain, amphitheater and obelisk shown in the panorama. The lock can be seen through the trees between the obelisk and the office building.
