With 1,6 million square meters, Ibirapuera Park is more than a simple park. It's one of the greatest projects of the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and the landscape designer Burle Marx.
Ibirapuera has important public buildings, such as the Biennial Pavilion, mainly known for its art exhibitions but also aimed at other types of exhibitions and conventions. The Data Processing Company of São Paulo is also there (PRODAM), as well as a brand new auditorium designed by Niemeyer many years ago.
As the beautiful entertainment Park it is, Ibirapuera includes a planetarium, the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), the Afro-Brazilian Museum and the Japanese Pavilion - with a copy of the Imperial Palace of Kyoto and characteristic gardens and lakes. In its open area, the park has many ancient trees, huge free grassy areas, four linked lakes, tracks for cooper and bicycles, areas for sports, snack bars and playgrounds.
