As night falls, the Center for Wooden Boats at the south end of Lake Union in Seattle is a magical place. Apart from the hustle and bustle of the city you step back into a different time. The docks are lined with all manner of boats. From humble working boats whose builders never dreamed that their work would one day reside in a museum to fine crafted yachts, painstakingly restored to their original glory. This is a place to come to savor the joys of boats, especially wooden boats -- and in the shadow of the lumber and cod schooner Wawona, to remember the days of working sail and oar.
