Both spectacular and supremely enduring, Zion Canyon was carved out of the plateaus of Southwestern Utah by the glacial runoff that is now the Virgin River. Though millions visit every year, Zion is still pristine in many parts, and continues to provide accessible, natural recreation to its patrons in the dozens of trails, incredible vistas, and the refreshing north fork of the river. First established as a National Monument in 1909, the area is now known as the Zion National Park. This panorama captures the blissful joy of many of my fellow visitors, who reveled in the clean air, clear skies, and mind-boggling terrain, and shared in the refuge of the river on the many days where the mercury surpassed 110F.
