The metro station "Prospekt Bolshevikov" was inaugurated on December 30, 1985 simultaneously with 4 other stations constituting fourth line of Saint Petersburg metro network. Line 4 has joined city center and sleeping quarters on the right bank of the Neva river.

It is typical example of deep underground single-vault station. Vaulting of three parts is the only element that distinguishes it from other stations. Central vaulting is highlighted by lamps hidden behind side vaultings above railway tracks.

The sickle and hammer is a Communist symbol.
