Caption
Downtown Kaaawa, Hawaii, in front of Swanzy Beach Park. Turning to the left is a 7-Eleven and another building with a small BBQ joint and the town’s post office. On the far right and appearing above the white minivan you can see the microwave towers at the fire station. A mile or so past the fire station is the Crouching Lion Inn, and about a mile in the opposite direction is Kaaawa Elementary School, made famous in the movie Blue Crush. Everything else in this small rural Oahu town are homes. There are mostly single-family wood houses with one townhouse development on the far side of town past the fire station.

Swanzy is a typical small regional community park with a basketball court, playground equipment, restrooms, and a pavilion. The beach front has a little sand and lots of rocks. A mix of locals, island residents, and visitors use the park.

Kaaawa is located about 25 miles from Honolulu. The county makes an attempt to limit park usage but out here in the country no one really follows or enforces the rule.
