One of the greatest fun Latvians have during the long and cold season of winter and early spring is ice fishing. Hundreds and hundreds of men sit, as motionless statues, on their fishing boxes and meditate on rods, in hope for the magic golden fish to swallow the bait... While golden fish is rare in our latitudes, ruffs, perches, roaches, pike perches and other varieties come in plenitude, to the joy of fishermen's wives :)
