On the market around Freiburg's minster several stands offer a variety of sausages, wrapped in rolls, some with fried onions, and as you please with mustard or ketchup. The market can be very crowded, as not only the citizens of Freiburg do their shopping there, but also tourists like to take a walk over this market. Trying to eat a sausage – which can be three times as long as the roll you hold it with, and which might be covered with mustard from one end to the other – in such a crowd is quite adventurous, so many customers tend to disappear in the gaps between the stands to be out of the way. For those who prefer to eat their sausage without hassle some caterers have put up wooden benches behind their stands. On a Saturday morning this is one of the quietest spots in Freiburg's inner city.
