Inaugurated on September 7, 1875, it is the oldest prefabricated iron building in Brazil, exported from Europe to Recife in the end of the 19th Century. It was designed by J. Lieuthier Louis, Engineer of the City of Recife in 1871 and inspired by the Grenelle Market, Paris, which was built by the French engineer Louis Léger Vauthier.
