The Hastings fishing fleet is one of the oldest in the UK. The boats are still launched off the shingle beach and the nets hung to dry in the tall-tarred weather-boarded huts which line The Stade, as the beach is known. The fishermen use the beach free of charge, a right granted in Medieval Times and guarded to this day. There is a small museum in the old Chapel and a miniature railway that connects with the main seafront. Peter's Eastern Fish Shop is on Rock A Nore Road amongst the iconic net-drying huts selling local fish in season and some brought in from around the UK. If you can't wait until you get home Hastings has some of the best fish and chips restaurants in England and a number of shellfish stalls.
