Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the south bank of the River Thames in London.

The original Globe Theatre saw the birth of some of the celebrated works of the world's most famous playwright, William Shakespeare.

This building is a reproduction of the Globe Theatre; once partly owned by Shakespeare, which was destroyed by fire on 29th June 1613 - a slight mishap with a theatrical cannon during a performance of Henry VIII. Rebuilt in 1614, it was closed by the puritans in 1642 and demolished to make way for the contruction of tenements in 1644.

The site of the original Globe was discovered in 1989 and this replica was opened in 1997, opposite St Paul's Cathedral, adjacent to Tate Modern, approximately 205 metres from the first, ill-fated playhouse.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre was the first thatched roof building to be permitted in London since the Great Fire of London, 1666.
