The curved shingle bay below the village of Catterline was said to be a landing point for St Ninian in the late 400's, as he began the conversion of the Picts to Christianity. Smuggling in Catterline was a popular means of supplementing fishing incomes, hence The Watch House. The Watchie was built, I believe, in the early 1800's, and can just be seen on the far right of the cliff top. It is now used as a studio where artists are drawn by the atmosphere and the light of this intriguing wee village.
