Border within a Museum
A museum is a place without borders. Within a museum, you see artifacts from different places, time and cultures, rooms after rooms. Stuffed animals and ancient cultures hosted in the same building. It is a place that transcends timeline and spatial boundaries. However, in the lobby of National Taiwan Museum, the oldest natural history museum in Taiwan, we found a psychological border. The lobby is surrounded by 32 Corinthian embellishments, decorated lavishly with carvings of acanthus leaves. Standing at the center of the lobby and looking up, you see a vaulted roof and a stained glass window. On sunny days, the glittering colors shine through the room, creating an elegant and splendid atmosphere.
Beyond the lobby, there are thousands of stuffed animals and artifacts, witness of thousands years of human history and natural evolution. Within the room, there is only embellishments and light. The sharp contrast between the two creates a psychological border in the museum.
