The Matterhorn (called Monte Cervino in Italy) marks the natural border between Switzerland and Italy. Right over the border there are the Italian skiing areas of Cervinia and Valtournanche. Zermatt alone provides about 313km of trails and over 60 lifts. If that's not enough, you can easily ski across the border and continue skiing in Italy. The winter ski season here, which lasts from late November through early May, is longer than in most other resorts in Europe.
