The flat, long building houses the fish market Faxamarkaður amongst other businesses. Not surprisingly there's little activity just before midnight but traces can be found all over the place: piles of huge plastic boxes to store fish, dead fish scattered on the ground and the odd seagull nibbling on it. A Canadian trawler is lying at the pier – it had probably been discharged earlier on. The grey gunboat belongs to the coast guard and is a leftover from the so-called Cod Wars when Iceland used to quarrel with the United Kingdom about fishery rights; they never carried sharp ammunition.
