The Bale Mill was built in 1846 by Dr. E.T. Bale. It was a water wheel powered by an overshot wheel. It was restored in 1988 by the State of California. The 36 ft. "overshot" wheel has been replaced. Grinding is done at 1 and 4 PM on weekends and cornmeal, wheat, rye and buckwheat flours are sold. On March 20th, when I was photographing the mill, the wheel was working- thus the blurred image as the water was pouring down the wheel.
