Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, Northern Flinders Ranges, South Australia.

Isaiah: The wilderness and the parched land shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose…

The Adnyamathanha (rock people) are made up of the Kuyani, Wailpi, Yadliaura, Pilatapa and Pangkala, which are the traditional groups of the Northern Flinders Ranges. Their creation stories have passed from generation to generation for thousands of years.

This is a slow country, where change is dictated by harsh conditions and endless time. Very occasionally the magnificent wilderness is transformed into a garden, an Eden recreated by the unpredictable hand of nature in welcoming rain.

The arid land around the Pinnacles in Arkaroola is transformed into a magical canvas of colour. Hop flowers carpet the valleys attracting a plethora of native birds.
