We reached the peak of our vacation on the Jungfraujoch in 2010. The Jungfraujoch is a col between the Mönch and Jungfrau mountains in the Swiss Alps. It's situated at 3,571 meters. Strangely enough it can simply be reached by train. An expensive train that is and one that follows a steep track right through some very impressive and fierce rocky mountains. The ride up is an attraction on its own. As the train gets higher the narrow gaps between the train and tunnel walls may get you somewhat dizzy. And if that doesn't do it, the decrease in air pressure as you get higher will help. Luckily you can step out of the train during 2 short stops. The first stop offers a panorama from the north face of the Eigerwand. The second stop offers a view of an ice-lake full of bizarre shaped glacier parts.
On the top of the col, there is a lot you can do. But the view over the mountains, the glacier and the valleys will surely grab your attention for the first hour or so. After days of bad weather, we were lucky to go up on a day that didn't have even the tiniest hint of a cloud. A sunny, serene and superb Swiss sight, that's what we experienced.
