In a recently pedestrianised square in the old area of Larnaca, - on what was once a very busy road junction - stands the church of Agiou Lazarou (Holy Lazarus), built in the 9th Century by Byzantine Emperor Leo, on the site of St. Lazarus' tomb.

According to legend, Lazarus traveled to Larnaca after his resurrection and became the city's first Bishop.

The interior of the church is richly decorated with many beautiful icons.

The pavement cafes have extended into the square making it a pleasant place to while away a few hours watching the world go by.

Anti-clockwise to the church is the beginning of the "Old Turkish" area of Larnaca.
