The new Liège Guillemins TGV Station was opened officially on 18 September, 2009, in the presence of the renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The station is a major node in the European High Speed Rail Network. It is situated between the Cointe Hill, a landscaped residential area, and a typical run-down 19th Century urban area.

Many of the cafes, hotels, clubs and other establishments in the area will have to make way eventually for a large boulevard and new architecture. Reference (a.o.).
