Union Station was built in 1910 as the terminus for the Northern Pacific Railroad.

The stunning glasswork on the Monarch Window was created by Dale Chihuly, a native of Tacoma. Through the window, one can see the two Crystal Towers on the Bridge of Glass, the distinctive cone of the Museum of Glass and (on a clear day) an excellent view of Mount Rainier. These projects have become the centerpiece of an arts district that has revitalized the urban core of Tacoma.

Here is a description by Dale Chihuly.
