This panorama was shot very close to the one shown in the Elevation event. Glendale has a long history, from its beginnings as an iron-works before the American Revolution, to a booming textile mill village, to a moribund, economically depressed area following the closure of the mill. There is now hope of a rebound with the establishment of the Glendale Outdoor Leadership School by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, the extensive Glendale Greenway along the river and Wofford College's new Glendale Shoals Environmental Studies Center in the former textile mill's office building.

This abandoned bridge was formerly the main route into Glendale. It passes just behind the dam that was used to power the mill in the early days. When the bridge became obsolete, it was replaced by a modern bridge on a route that bypasses the town. It remains popular with pedestrians walking the paths along the riverside greenway.
