An oasis of quiet and beauty in the middle of this bustling New South city, historic Elmwood Cemetery is facing some controversy, as Charlotte develops commuter rail. A main line of the Norfolk and Southern Railway passes along the eastern boundary of the cemetery. It's visible in the panorama, just under the downtown skyline.
