This panorama was shot from the walls of Dún Chonchúir Stone Fort on Inis Meáin, the middle of the three Aran Islands that lie in Galway Bay, off the West coast of Ireland. This spectacular fort can be seen from the sea as one approaches Inis Meáin - it lies about halfway along the island. The fort was defended by a massive inner wall, over 8m wide in places and which enclosed an area 70m by 40m. You can read more about it at the Discovery Programme an archaeological research institution dedicated to investigating Ireland's past. The thatched cottage next to the pink house (rotate clockwise from opening position) is known as "Synge's Cottage". It is the house where the playwright John Millington Synge stayed for five summers at the turn of the twentieth century, inspiring much of his subsequent writing. More panoramas of the Aran Islands will be available soon.
