The City of Vigan is located in Ilocos Sur, at the northern part of the Philippines.
It is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A short describtion says: "Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South-East Asia."
To walk the cobbled stone streets of Vigan can instantly transport a person back to the 16th century. Here, visitors can either explore by foot, or take the numerous 'calesa' for a guided tour by the 'kutsero'.
The village is just situated beside the city proper. Numerous clean tourists inns abound. Located also in the city are two plazas, Plaza Salcedo and Plaza Burgos. A prominent church, St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as several museums.
The scene at night can be a total transformation.
