Photographed for the CD ROM "A Visual Tour of the UN".

The General Assembly Hall is the largest room at the UN Headquarters, with seating capacity for about 1,900 people. Here, in the General Assembly Hall, the delegations of all 191 Member States meet. The General Assembly is the central organ of the United Nations, where every nation can speak up and discuss the pressing problems of our times. The Assembly first met in this Hall at the opening of its seventh regular session, on 14th October 1952.

The design of the room was a collaborative effort by the team of 11 architects that designed Headquarters. To emphasize the international character of the room, it contains no gift from any Member State.
