The sounds of the silent song.

Since two years ago the Merida Youth Orchestra play a Christmas concert call "Una navidad muy especial" ("A very special Christmas concert"). The name for the presentation came as a word-play because the regular players play together handicap kids. There are child with special needs as Down syndrome playing at the rhythmic or keyboards section, blind people in the chorus section and deaf boys in a section call "The white hands chorus" (a chorus that "sing" with their hands).

In our countries handicap people is very discriminated and they have few chance to share and be integrated with "normal" (are we "normal"???) people. Maybe my picture is not my best 2005 pic and by sure is not good enough as many others here on the World Wide Panorama site, but see, share and feel the happiness of these boys and their relatives make this moment one of my BEST of 2005!

Alleidy (my wife) who is a regular violin player at the professional Merida Symphony Orchestra was the conductor of the "White hands chorus" in this picture (and of course I'm very proud of her work with all these nice kids). Note: if you are able to recognize the stars you will get the conclusion all them are very close to the North Pole, the only place where you can see this sky... although we live near the equator someone made the miracle for that moment!!...

Sonidos de la canción silente.

Desde hace dos años la Orquesta Infantil y Juvenil de Mérida tocan un concierto de Navidad llamado "Una Navidad muy especial". El nombre del concierto viene como un juego de palabras pues los ejecutantes habituales de la orquesta tocan junto con niños y jóvenes con necesidades especiales. En la sección rítmica y de teclados están presentes niños con síndrome de Down, hay una sección de coro donde muchos de los cantantes son ciegos y una sección de niños sordos llamada "Coro de Manos Blancas" (un coro que "canta" haciendo señas con sus manos).

En nuestros países las personas con necesidades especiales son bastantes discriminadas y sus posibilidades de integrarse a grupos de gente "normal" (¿¿somos nosotros gente "normal"??) son muy limitadas. Seguramente esta no es mi mejor fotografía del 2005 y no será tan buena como muchas otras aquí en el World Wide Panorama, pero ver, sentir y compartir la felicidad de estos muchachos y sus familias hacen de este momento uno de los mejores del 2005.

Alleidy (mi esposa) quien es ejecutante de violín en la Orquesta Sinfónica de Mérida es la directora de la sección de Manos Blancas en esta foto (¡y por su puesto yo estoy muy orgulloso de su trabajo con estos agradables niños!). Nota: ¡si eres capaz de reconocer las estrellas llegarás a la conclusión de que ellos están muy cerca del Polo Norte el único lugar donde puedes ver ese cielo!... aunque nuestra ciudad está muy cerca del ecuador!!!
