With the theme of Sanctuary I immediately thought of my family and friends. Every December we meet to view the Christmas lights placed around downtown Ottawa. To drink hot chocolate or warm apple cider and talk about the year passed and the new year to come.

This year we gathered at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We hope this soldier of the war to end all wars has found his sanctuary from the horrible battle on Easter weekend 1917 when he gave his life with other Canadian soldiers capturing Vimy Ridge. Without the sacrifice of brave soldiers like him we may not have the freedom today to practice our faith and to meet with our friends in such a peaceful and democratic country.
