Wimbledon Common, walking through part of the golf course that cuts through the woods. This tree seems to be a timeless thing - not jaw-droppingly ancient, but definitely and mysteriously old and, well, wrinkled. In summer it provides a shady shelter for passing walkers or golfers, but in winter it just stands there reaching across the sky with its countless bare, bony fingers.
Every year near Christmas we (my wife and I and some friends) meet at the common's car park, walk through the woods past the pond in the north end of the common, and go past this tree on our way to the Fox and Grapes pub. (The beer is always nice, but this year the food's not so good.)
